My Recent Etsy Favorites

Who doesn't love small businesses! Here are a few of my recent favorites on Etsy!

I'm a huge fan of any sort of small business. It's so inspiring to see people trying to do what they love and make it into a sustainable way of living! It's been a few months process of working back in forth and applying and getting rejected, but I finally have a new place I'm moving into in only a few days! I'm so excited to have a new place that I can use to be "that home." You know the one, the one where everyone is welcome, the one that if someone needs to escape for a day they can join for pizza and a movie! Or if they need, they can crash at while they're visiting.

In that spirit of the unique and small business, I've been "Pinteresting" and "Etsying" everything! Here are a few of my favorites I've found on Etsy. go check them out!

Kitchen:

I am probably going to paint either my cabinets or my backsplash white! I also really want an long rug to keep in the kitchen. The below from TURQUALITYRUGS is so beautiful! She's also offering

Unique shelves are so simple, but such a great addition to your bedroom wall. I don't really put any pictures up in my bedroom normally, so this could be a great addition to the walls without any pictures up! Loopholes. Shelves by infinite abyss

The Best Coffee Shops in Denver

Every perfect weekend starts with coffee! Make sure you're going to the best one when you're in Denver next!

I have loved coffee since I was a kid and my babysitter made what she called "Coffee Milk". It was basically a bunch of milk and a little bit of coffee. That was it, I was hooked to the taste!! There are so many different aspects of coffee that just make me happy: the idea of sitting in a coffee shop and catching up with a friend over a wonderfully crafted cup of coffee, or spending a quiet morning making french press coffee. There is just something so wonderful about it, that brings people together. I also have this thing about wanting to constantly try different coffee shops. Therefore, I've been to quite a few in Denver. My base for coffee is a cappuccino, therefore at all of the below I've had their cappuccino and I approve this message!

Thump Coffee.jpg

Thump Coffee

This is my favorite coffee shop in Denver. The coffee is always spot on, still the best cup of coffee I've found yet, and the food is just as good! In the back of the coffee shop there is a "no computer/technology" area, and that just reminds of the Gilmore Girls "No Cellphones" sign, it makes me smile. The one downside to this coffee shop is that they don't have plugs around the shop. They only have them in the front by the windows. Therefore, make sure you charge your device before setteling in. Thump has community tables, so get use to sitting across and next to someone you may not know. You can always tell who hasn't been there before when they start to search under the table for something that isn't there.

Steam Espresso Bar Denver

Steam Espresso Bar

This is my second "go to" if you will. Steam is located a little more south near the college. Smaller is size, but just as wonderful for the coffee. There is one community table near the front, similar to Thump, but Steam has a few smaller more individual tables in the back area. There is also an outdoor space that is perfect when the weather is nice. Steam is located more in a neighborhood so you'll have to street park, but honestly most places in Denver if you're driving you'll have to street park. They also have the garage door type doors behind the counter which let in so much wonderful outside air!

PigTrain Coffee Union Station Denver

Pigtrain Coffee Co

Did you just get in from the airport? Looking for a quick cup after your redeye flight? Pig train is the stop for you! Located in Union Station in Downtown Denver, Pigtrain is a good cup of coffee and a a great grab and go. If you're looking to sit and work, you can do so in Union Station, but not really in Pigtrain. If you do go, you have to check to see if they have popsters!! Homemade pop tarts, you literally can't get any better!! The one that's my favorite is their raspberry popster! Blue frosting and sprinkles! YUM

Amethyst Coffee Denver

Amethyst Coffee Company

Amethyst is the smallest of the coffee shops on this list. Located just off of Broadway and just south of downtown. Amethyst is a nice walk if you just went to the Denver Art Museum and are looking for some good coffee. The parking lot is super small! So be warned when you have to circle to find a spot. My favorite drink is the cold brew. Although the smallest, Amethyst also has probably one of the most Instagram like insides. Good for a quick in and out coffee.

I would like to say I've been doing "research" on these coffee shops, but really I just truly enjoy each of them. There is something unique about them all and the more time I spend looking for new places to visit, the more gems I find!!

Stella's Coffee Denver Pearl Street

Stella's Coffee House

Are you headed a little more south of Denver? Looking for a place that feels more relaxed, but still has great coffee and pastries? Stella's is a wonderful option for you. Located on Pearl surrounded by cute boutique shops and homes, Stella's is a great escape for a quick coffee or a few hours of work.

When I first walked in I was confused that I only saw one table, but then I turned the corner and realized there was an entire back section that wrapped around. So much space!! They also switch up their "coffee of the day" section often so see what's new before ordering your regular.

Corvus Coffee on Broadway Denver

Corvus Coffee Roasters

Located on Broadway, about 7-10 minutes south of downtown, this is a perfect coffee shop to stop into if you're in the mood to shop! Broadway has so many cute little, privately owned boutique shops.

The coffee I tend to get at Corvus is their nitrous coffee. Disclaimer, it's strong! It's actually really funny, because every time I really need to get things done quickly I'll go to Corvus because I know the coffee will kick in and I'll speed through my work. It's also perfect if you need an oil change, I'll explain... It's located about a block or two from a mechanic so it's another great stop if you're trying to have a multitasking productive day!

My Best Purchases of the Year!

My Best Buys of 2017 - AVintageJoy

Throughout the year I somehow purchase so many little and sometimes big things. However, there are always things that really stand out as items I'm so glad I purchased, or items that I find myself using more than others. Here's my list of favorites from this past year.

1// A white bed comforter. I had been wanting one for years but never brought myself to purchasing one, and I'm regretting not purchasing it sooner. I'm obsessed with my white bed. I was walking around in TJMAXX, as you do, and all of a sudden I found the perfect white comforter. I've read multiple studies about how a white bed helps you sleep better and that's what finally made me break down and buy the comforter. I really do feel like it helps me have a more sound sleep.

2// My living room rug. I had been looking for living room rug for so long. I wanted a rug that was a good neutral that would work for all seasons and looked purposeful all times of the year. It's white as well, no not everything in my house is white just these two things, but it works for everything. From being a neutral in the spring, to feeling cozy and keeping my feet warm in the fall and winter, I'm so in love with my white rug.

3// Lip primer from MAC. I mentioned this in my winter essentials post, but it really is one of the best beauty items I acquired this year. I was searching for almost a lip balm to put under my matte lips that moisturized but didn’t change my matte lips into a satin lip. There were so many I tried that would work, but turned my lipstick into a satin instead of keeping them a warm matte that I was looking for. MAC was a Godsend!

4// Jane Iredale Longest Lash mascara. I actually got this one as a gift, but I'm almost at the point where I need a new mascara, and I'm definitely purchasing this one! Because it was a gift I didn't realize it was suppose to help your eyelashes grow. One day I was looking into the mirror and I thought to myself "are my eyelashes longer?" Yes!! Yes they are. It's really worked for me.

5// A classic and quality winter jacket! I would also suggest one that is more of a neutral so that it lasts years! Mine is a black longer trench from Zara and it's my go to when it's cold outside! My favorite part is that it works for every occasion. I can wear it to work over my suit to work, or I can pair it with a sweater and jeans!

6// LUSH R&B hair moisturizer. The sticker price, depending on how much you're looking for, can be a little surprising, but in my opinion it's worth it. In the summer and spring when my hair tries to get frizzy, it helps calm my hair down, and during the winter when my hair tries to dry out, it adds the moisture my hair needs!

7// Tickets to experiences! One of my favorite aspects of life is travel! Anytime I'm in Florida I have..have to go to Disney! My last time back however, I was planning on not going to Disney. I couldn't make it the week without purchasing a ticket. It was so much fun. I hadn't been on the new Pandora ride, and it was going to be the only time I would get to see the castle lit up for Christmas. It was worth it! #treatyoself.

Also in the Summer there is a renaissance festival I really wanted to go to. I started to doubt myself, but I decided to ignore those doubts and went anyways with a friend and it was amazing! I had so much fun walking around exploring, and felt like I was in a video game the entire time! I wrote a post about the festival here!

So many great aspects of 2017 and so many lessons learned. Spend your money and time on things that improve your life and the life of others! Excited and waiting for what 2018 brings.

Christmas Gift Guide

Make sure this year that your gifts have a personal touch to each one of them!

I'm a little...ok a lot obsessed with Christmas. I believe it's the most magical time of the year filled with such wonder that even the sky chimes in and brings some extra ambiance. However, the hardest part of Christmas is trying to find out what gifts to buy for people.

The best gifts are those that people can tell you spent time on, that you remembered their favorite of something or thought that this items can help their lives in someway. Who doesn't want to be that reminder for their friends and family that they've been thinking about them and looking for a present that "looks like them." For me, that's personally one of may favorite things, when someone gives me a present and says "I saw it and it looked like you so I had to buy it!"

Here are a few of my favorite things...to buy for friends and family.

An Adult Onesie. To start off your gift exchange, bring a fun element of surprise by putting a fun adult size onesie in there. I find onesies such fun whimsical addition to a cold winter night. They really do keep you warm, but also keep you in good spirits. How can you not be laughing when wearing a onesie. Even the thought of someone angry in a onesie makes me laugh.

Wonder Woman the movie on dvd or blue ray! I love this movie so much, I feel like it has a wonderful message to it, and it's directed by a woman. We need more female directors, show some love!

A coffee grinder. Give the gift of happiness, aka fresh coffee. They will think of you each morning and be so grateful during those times that they accidentally purchase the whole been coffee as opposed to the ground coffee bags.

A bathtub caddy. After a long day working hard, pampering yourself shouldn't feel complicated. Give your loved one the peace of mind that you've already got it covered. I will say I would probably put some bath bombs with the caddy so they can start off the "bathtub caddy experience" on the right foot. Also, if they don't know you're getting them a caddy, they may not realize what to do with it, lol.

A Sleep Mask. When you're on a long flight all you want to do is sleep at some point during the flight, but that's the exact time that someone around you wants to read. A sleep mask feels a little funny to put on until you're sleeping soundly and then you're so grateful to have that mask! Perfect for the person who's always on a plane to somewhere.

A Figurine. If you have any friends or family in your life that are a little nerdy, this is so perfect! I personally have a few pop figurines on my bookshelf and I feel like it adds so much character, see what I did there, to the bookshelf. You could pick something from their favorite video game, comic book character, tv show, you name it! You could also take this another way and purchase a jewelry item that they can wear that reminds them of their favorite ____. I've seen so many delicate looking necklaces or bracelets that have a W for wonder woman.

Two Tickets to Something. This could be a concert, show, event, cooking class, you name it. Something that they can look forward to that you will be doing together. On Christmas day they will be receiving so many items why not give them the gift of an experience that you'll share together.

A Subscription to a monthly box. There are so many monthly options out there from food, to nerdy things, to makeup, to clothing. Have your Christmas present last all year by purchasing a monthly subscription for someone. That way they feel the Christmas spirit all year and they also think of you every time they open a box. This is great for the loved one who is far away!

The best presents I've ever gotten have been ones that I could tell thought went into. It's hard when life goes so fast, but what can you do this year to add something a little more personalized to your gifts?

My Cold Weather Essentials

My Cold Weather Essentials - AVintageJoy

Having cold weather or winter essentials is a must around this time of year. The past few days the temperature has dropped significantly! It went from like 70 degrees to 31 degrees. My winter nature kicked into full gear and it makes me so happy. I've pulled out all of my home winter essentials and think you should too. It honestly doesn't matter what the weather is like where you live, it's that time of year, embrace it!!

1// A cozy blanket over the couch. I have to have a cozy blanket near me, if I'm going to be sitting on the couch for a long period of time. Even if it's hot outside I need to have a blanket on the couch. It adds such an element of a cozy home.

2// A go to candle to light every night. In general I love for my home to have a scent, but when it's cold outside it's even more important. I never did this back in the day, but since I've been more consistent with lighting my candles it's so nice to walk into a room and it smell like cookies, or autumn, or buttercream. It's the easiest way to add another layer of comfort to your home.

3// All of the Lotion. It gets so cold in the winter that I end up keeping a small lotion in my purse for the moment in the coffee shop that you realize your skin is dry. I think part of it is genetics: I remember in the winter my dad's hands would always get so dry. He works outside with his hands so he would always have such rough hands in the Ohio winters. But the other part is truly just this time of year and the havoc it tries to put on our skin. Bonus: Make sure you're also putting a little bit of a heavier moisturizer on too. Protect your face!

4// Lip balm/ exfoliate your lips. Every morning when you're finishing up your makeup don't forget to exfoliate your lips. It's something that many women tend to forget, but it really does help your lips stay healthy this time of year. Add a simple lip balm or lip primer before applying your lipstick to ensure your lips stay moisturized throughout the day!

5// When the weather changes or goes back and forth from 70 degree weather to 31 degrees everyone around gets sick. I am a firm believer and advocate for Airborne/Emergency. Especially the gummy version, I'll take the other kinds if I have to but I would so much rather trick myself into thinking the gummy ones are candy.

6// A flavored creamer. It's such a small luxury to give yourself but it's so rewarding. I really love hazelnut around this time of year. I tried to do the pepermint creamer thing, but hazelnut is still the winner in my book.

7// Nail polish. My nails are pretty strong, but when it's so cold out they can't help but become breakable. Protect your nails by keeping at least a coat of clear on them. My favorite colors for fall or winter are dark red or plum. I love the darker colors this time of year. Plus by having your nail painted you look that much more put together.

8// Fairy lights! I love having lights up around my living room windows. It's different house to house, but I suggest buying all white lights. This way if you like them you can keep them up, and if you don't want them all year, at least they'll blend in as much as possible with the blinds or curtains.

9// A Holiday movie to watch. Spread the Christmas cheer and invite friends over for a movie night! There are so many great ones out there, and so many horrible ones too. All equally as fun to watch around this time of year. Need some ideas of movie to watch? A few of my favorites are: White Christmas, The Holiday, Elf, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas

What are your tips and tricks for the cold weather months?

The Most Exciting Thing I've Done All Year

Lorelai's House - AVintageJoy

If you've been around here for a little while you know of my deep love for Gilmore Girls!! There are so many things about that show that are amazing!! I've written posts about what I've learned and how to plan your own viewing party. But I had the opportunity to walk around the set!! It looked a little different since the show has been off the air for a while, but never the less it was so much fun!! I want to write about my adventure in LA, but this was definitely my favorite place I go to visit during the trip!!

Do you have a show or a movie that has become apart of your life? If so, what is it?

Luke's Diner - AVintageJoy
Miss Pattys - AVintageJoy
Rory's Study Tree - AVintageJoy

I've felt like a Gilmore quite a few times in my life, but being in Stars Hollow took it to another level. I hung out at Rory's study tree, waited for Miss. Patty to teach me a dance lesson, and for Luke's to open up so I could enjoy my coffee inside. So much fun!!

October Favorites

October Favorites - AVintageJoy

This is not a drill, it's that time again to put away the summer items and pull out the cozy sweaters, fall decorations, warm beanies, and prepare for the holidays. This is my absolute favorite time of the year, second only to the wonderful cozy nights of December. I love decorating and having my home feel cozy, I Iove the fall colors and I love spending this time of year with those that I cherish.

However, before you pull all of the plaid items in your closet, let's take a moment to reflect on October. Also, I may have already pulled out all of my fall and winter clothes, I can't help it.

Inspiration. The Chip Ingram App. It has a bunch of small 30 minutes series' about so many different aspects of life. I've been listening to the "The Real God" series and it's so good! It's about obtaining the correct view of God. The goodness of God was a brutal one to hear.

Blog Post. I'm so excited to share my favorite day of the year so far with you!! It's coming later this week! But here's a hint in my favorite post from this month!

(Want to know what my favorite day of the year has been? Check it out here)

Purchase. Ever feel like you spend all of this time on your makeup and then it comes off two hours later? Ya, me too! Last week a friend of mine introduced me to the Urban Decay All Night Spray and I love it! It truly does allow your makeup to last all day. I tend to work 10+ hour days so this for me is a lifesaver. At the end of the day I still look like I have makeup on! Win!

Entertainment. On the youtube train, I've been watching a ton of tutorials and the ones I keep watching over and over are the ones by Tanya Burr. This is her fall makeup tutorial from last year. Love the dark lip! It also helps that she lives in England, one of my ultimo favorite places to visit.

Focused on. Having the right focus, and seeking wisdom in my life in all areas. Sounds a little introspective, but it's important in this season. We spend so much of our energy on things that we can not control or on outcomes that we don't know will happen or not. I'm trying to have an outward mindset and only focus on things that I have a part in, letting those I don't fall aside. Don't stress about what you can't control!

What were your favorites from October?
