Ya'll, the fall vibes are here and I can finally set them free! It's time to pull out the pumpkins and sweaters, and spices for our coffee! I'm so ready. I truly love summer, and I will be sad to see it go, but I'm ready for the cozy to return!


Since it will be getting cold soon, I'm hoping that the porch furniture will go on sale and I can snag some good times for cheap!


I really do love photography, like so many of us do. But I feel nervous going out in public with my camera, which makes no sense because so many do it already, but it's something I want to get over. I want to take a day and drive to locations specifically for photography!


I've been wanting to go to either Portland or Seattle with one of my friends and I want it to be this month! Even a small weekend trip to explore sounds wonderful! 


I got one from Ikea specifically because I can add some contact paper to it and have it look like what I want! Or maybe use wood pieces and drill those to the shelves for some dimension, not sure yet! I just need to actually take the time to do that.


I'm going to talk more in-depth about this in a later post, but in August I realized I was falling into an incorrect mindset. I want to keep on the path I'm on now!

 I remember back in school, when I would feel so expensive when I bought actual brands as opposed to the store brand! I kind of miss that Joy, she really knew how to save and budget. Since having a "real job" I've gotten more loose with my money. I want to get a little closer to that Joy excited about the real brands and save that difference for my future! Take myself more seriously! If nothing changes, nothing changes. 


 When something happens at work or in my personal life, I want to make sure I'm focusing on the real issue. The other day I had someone angry with me at work, but I knew that they were going through something in their life that was the real cause of their frustration. Focusing on the real problem helped me to stay calm and work through what was happening. Sometimes when someone is frustrated it has nothing to do with that particular situation. It's hard in those emotionally charged moments, but I want to make sure I'm focusing on what is really happening in others lives and in my own life.


It's that time of year and I'm ready! time for the pumpkin everything! If you don't like pumpkin and fall things, I'm sorry! but also, not sorry! I'm Demi Lovato in fall form. (If you haven't heard that song, just ignore me)


It's that time again. Exciting goal I know! Try to contain yourself with excitement for me.


Around this time of year the Aspen trees in the mountains start to turn a golden color and it looks beautiful! They've started a little early this year so some of them have already changed. I want to see them :)

August Goals (10 in 30)

Wildflowers - AVintageJoy

Happy Summer ya'll. Summer is in full swing over here in Colorado, and it's hot! Everyone keeps telling me this is unusually hot, but for me it just feels normal but without the humidity, and that I'm definitely ok with. It's also my Birthday Month! Which isn't as exciting as it was when I was a kid, but I'm trying to be more excited about it. So let's put some goals up shall we!


 I've really enjoyed doing this in July and I feel that it helps me to look back each day and take a moment to think about my mindset throughout the day. It also gives me an excuse to use my bullet journal, which I'm always down with!


 I'm focusing more and more on my longterm goals, and in order to focus on one I need to make sure my budget is tight and locked in! I'm pretty good with not overspending, but I'm not saving as much as I would like.


I think I want it to be "Girl, Wash Your Face" because I've heard so any great things about that book! I also just got "Jesus, CEO" in the mail so it may be that one instead. And I have a few audio books...I'm just excited about reading again! 


I went on a few hikes in July, and I want to keep that up! Plus it allows me to be outdoors which is always a wonderful reason to hike, not that you hike indoors. You know what I mean though.


 This is going to be a huge goal on mine this month. There are days, like yesterday, that I work 12+ hrs and that can be tiring, but it's also worth it! I want to make sure I'm setting the right example and coming to work with a positive attitude! 


I have thought of so many projects that I want to do! Unfortunately, I've reached that part of living in a place when you're like "well, this works for now." But I rebuke that phase!! I want to keep doing small and big updates that make my home even cozier and more me. Home is suppose to be a place that is very "sanctuary like", you know without all of the quasimodo references, but with the HGTV "I just love how my home is a reflection of me" feel.


 This I kind of touched on in goal 3, but I really want to give myself more resources for my job and my future. I do really feel called to do more than I'm doing, but I need some tips, tricks, and ideas of how to get there. The internet is such a huge place I know there are great resources out there for me!


t's summer so everything is hot, so it's not a big deal now, but in a few months it will be! My heater in my home hasn't been working for a few months now. I really need to have someone come look at it!


 I really love that platform, I love seeing all of the creativity it produces and it's so inspiring to see beautiful locations. I really need to get better at using it! I tend to scroll for an hour, but I never post anything. This month my goal is to post every other day! Consistency is key!


 I'm not a huge birthday person the older I've gotten, but why is that? I feel like as adults we skip some of those WOW moments we had as kids; we forget how precious every day is. I really want to get back to that childlike wonder and times, and enjoy the day for what it is! Not oversized either, but just a day to relax and recharge. :)

June Goals (10 in 30)

June Goals 2018 (10  in 30) - AVintageJoy

It's around this time of the year that I feel like my brain goes "ahhhhh" because the year is going so quickly and I have so many things I want to accomplish! We all have so many small and big goals that we're working towards every day. It's important to celebrate those. 

1// Purchase my Sugarland Tickets! If you don't know who they are, it's a country music band that I loved when I was younger and then they broke up to have kids....but they're back together now!! And they're coming to my part of the world and I really want to see them! 

2// Find lotion that I love, that's also better for my body than the lotion I'm using now. I never thought I had dry skin, but now I'm realizing I do, and lotion is important. The lotion I want to find though is lotion that has only a few ingredients so that it's better for my skin! Any thoughts?

3// Go to bed earlier. I have to get up so early for work, and yet in my heart I'm a night owl, therefore I tend to only get six hours of sleep a night, and recently those have been restless hours, no bueno.

4// Use my Levenger notebook to its fullest potential. I may even do a post on how great this notebook is. I love it so much! 

5// Learn more about my Lightroom presets. I've always been so intrigued by them and how they work so I finally purchased a set from Peter McKinnon and I love them! But I feel like they need to be tweaked on my pictures because of where I tend to shoot vs. where he tends to shoot. 

6// I want to find two things this month that I can cut out that will help me save more money! Because I feel like it's been so long since I've traveled I've been settling down. Getting use to a place isn't bad, but I don't want all of my money going for that instead of towards a future vacation!! 

7// Keep up with my at home workout routine! I'm starting to craft an at home workout routine that I really enjoy, I just need to keep it up!!

8// Look into options for AC units either in the window or something that I can put in the wall. I just moved and my new place has a window unit, but 20 minutes after I started it up, the cold air just became air *cries*.

9// On that same home remodel path: check to see how much a simple crown molding would be. I had it in my last place and I feel like it gave so much character. I wonder how much it would cost to do that in my place now?

10// See the outdoors! I'm keeping this one from months past because I wasn't very successful! I typically work 10-12 hrs a day, so seeing the sun is something that not only is important for my mental health, but also my physical! Go outdoors people! 


May Goals (10 in 30)

May Goals - 2018 - AVintageJoy

I "May" be a little late, see what I did there. But here we go! NSYNC got a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, and "It's gunna be May" meme is alive and well, all is right with the world. If you haven't seen the meme you should look it up, and if you have you'll already know I posted about it on my instagram story! Now that it's half way through May, what are my goals...

1// Make one video. I've really been wanting to start with videos because it is so much fun to look back and see my travels through videos. 

2// Get enough sLeEp (do you remember when we used to do that online) not sure how I just thought of it, but yeah get enough sleep. I have a super bad habit of sleeping too little!

3// Read One book from start to finish. I'm pretty bad at reading honestly, but I know it will help me mentally. This month I will complete this!

4// Learn and apply four new things about editing pictures. I think editing is so much fun, but some of those presets are so expensive. Youtube school it is!

5// Fully move into my new place. It has been a long road and a tiring one, but with all Jesus and none of me, I have a new place!! I'm so grateful!

6// Have a "new place party" I can't think of the actual word for that. 

7// Start an actual workout routine. Work has been more and more stressful and I need to find a way to "work" through the stress of it all. I've heard wonderful things about working out. I'm going to try that! Maybe I'll walk or run around my neighborhood?

8// Don't hate me but.....Renew my passport! And yes ladies and gentlemen if you're following along that is the third time this goal has been on my monthly goals *face palm*

9// Find ways to relax. As work becomes more and more stressful it's important for me to find new ways to relax. The other day I was at brunch with friends and consciously realized that it was the first time I had really felt relaxed in a while. I honestly still can't think of a time recently that I felt that relaxed, that's sad!

10// Keep my identity in line. There are so many incorrect aspects that try to talk into our lives, sometimes out of the best hearts, but they're incorrect. They try to tell us what our identity is in and what it should be in, but I know the truth! My identity is not in my job, nor should it be! I always want to do my best in anything I do, but if something goes wrong at work that does not change who my identity is as a person! I need to remember what defines me, and who has the authority to define me! 


March Goals (10 in 30)

Life lately has been very very busy, it isn't a bad busy but a very real busy that causes twelve hours a day of work and a real need for balance, but it's March! I woke up today and the sun was out. It is finally above twenty degrees, and I have time today to enjoy my coffee. It's going to be a good day. I wrote a little bit ago about enjoying the small moments, and that's what my goal is for today. I want to make sure in the middle of my meetings I'm taking the time to enjoy the small moments of seeing the daylight, the taste of my coffee, enjoy that I'm wearing my favorite perfume, and finally wearing sandals!! I love having goals each month that help me see the small moments and not let each month fly by. Here are my goals for this month.

1// Make oatmeal twice. This month I had a very busy day, and after I came home and took my time to make dinner. It was so nice. It has such a sense on accomplishment once you finally sit down and get to enjoy what you just cooked. I want to connect this in small ways over to my breakfast. I know myself, and to put down something like "Make eggs Benedict" is not a realistic goal for this month. I'll go with oatmeal and work my way up.

2// Write down a verse and stick it on the back of my door. Looking at your goals or something that encourages me really helps my mindset. This month I want to add something to my door.

3// Do something that is out of my comfort zone. In January I tried an Arial Yoga class, which is so very far out of my comfort zone, but I learned so much and it was nice to get my mind out of the "norm." I want to do something again this month that is far out of my comfort zone. Learning and growing.

4// PASSPORT! This is the month I'm going to renew it!

5// Cut my TV Cable I don't use it at all, and yet I'm paying for it. I really need to stop that this month!.

6// Do one at home facial/mask. My skin has been taking a beating from the day to day weather change. Today it's 70 degrees, praise!!, but two days ago it snowed. I've adjusted to the altitude but the constant weather change this time of year is brutal for my skin. 

7// Taxes. I know, it's basically like a four letter word, but also it's necessary. I also want to make sure I give myself the time to get all of that done before trying to move. I don't want to be doing both at the same time.

8// Wear my sandals more!! This I can't really control, but the Florida girl in me is so so happy today because I'm wearing my sandals. My poor very white skin is longing for the sun and to wear something other than boots.

9// Take more pictures. I've been really slacking on the picture game. I think it's the winter blues getting me down, but no more!! I really want to take more pictures this month.

10// Remember that comparison is a thief of Joy. It's always funny to me when my name is in a phrase, but this is a very true phrase. If you really want to make yourself miserable, compare yourself to others. If you want to be inspired, learn from others!!

February Goals (10 in 30)

True life: I wrote this and never clicked publish. Also true life...sometime you have goals, but not a picture and that's ok. I will put a picture up later, and maybe by the time you're reading this there's a picture, but just know it didn't start that way. I'm not letting perfection, or lateness stop me! Good enough > Never published. 

Ok, now onto the goals!! 

1// Go on more hikes. I forgot how close I life to the mountains. I know that sounds odd being in Colorado, but Florida doesn't have mountains so I constantly forget how close they are to me. I want to go on at least one hike this month.

2// Get my eyes checked. I really need to do this one. It's such a small thing to do, but I've been procrastinating for too long This month it just needs to happen.

3// Passport renewal time. It's time to fight that line and figure it out

4// See the daylight more. Hahaha that's such a real sentence, but also such a sad one. I've been working so much that I'm not really every seeing the daylight, until I have a day off. I want to use those days to my advantage and see the outside world. This aligns pretty well with goal number one, but not matter what I just want to see the outside more.

5// Look for a new place to live! It's moving time, I'm looking this time for a place that I can stay for at least a year or two. (Also, just moving apartments that is, not locations this time.)

6// Have my nails done more this month. It's a constant inner struggle of wanting to either do my own nails or have them done, and wanting to spend that money elsewhere. 

7// Wake up earlier this month and have a slower morning. The majority of my mornings are so quick and rushed. I really want to give myself the time to slow down and focus and remember all the things I need to do each morning. This month I feel is the month of priorities.

8// Stop cracking my fingers. It's a bad habit that I've picked up and had for years, but it's so not good for your hands!! I really want to take real steps to break that habit.

9// Read more. I watched a "What the CEOs do" type of video the other day and one aspect that I really love that they do is read. I love reading, but I'm not good at making it a priority in my everyday life. My goal this month, read for 10 minutes a day/ an hour a week. This way I have more leeway if I can't read each day, I can jut read for a longer period of time one day and still be fine.

10// Stay healthy. There are so many people around me getting sick. I almost got sick last week, but thankfully someone at work had a "mom" recipe and it saved me! Now I just need to snag that recipe for tea from her. Lifesaver!!

Happy February all!! Here's hoping that this month will be a good and productive month, and that my apartment complex will finally take down the Christmas decorations that are still up and shining into my apartment at night!! Please!


7 Things to Remember When Trying to Accomplish Your Goals

I'm a firm believer in having a plan. In my opinion, if you don't have a plan you're planning to fail. Making goals for yourself is a wonderful way to make sure you keep moving forward. Keeping your goals in mind is what helps you on those days where it's not so easy and it starts to feel like the sky is falling. It's important to keep some aspects in mind when thinking about your goals. Below are a few that I use on a consistent basis when life tries to get me dow. 

1// Remember that if you have a setback, the best timing is sometimes not your timing. I know this sounds super anti what i just said, but it's true. When you're trying so hard and you feel like you're not making any traction remember that many times, the best timing isn't ours. Think back over the goals you have set yourself in the past, did all of those come to fruition in the exact time you wanted them to? If you're answer is yes, more power to you!! I know in my own life setting goals keeps me focused on them, but having the mindset that it is going to take a lot of work and time keeps me motivated.

2// Remember that you have to put your goals in the oven not the microwave. What does that mean? I'll tell ya. Many times with our goals we want to put them in the microwave click thirty seconds and have the result, but it doesn't work like that. When you study very accomplished people, more often than not, they spent years working towards their larger goals before they got to see their goals be a reality. You have to put your goals in the "oven." You start with a plan, work towards that plan checking on it and making sure it isn't burning, adjusting the temperature if necessary and then you get to the finished product. 

3// Honesty time! Many times the reason that we don't accomplish our goals is that we don't put in the work. You have to work towards your goals with an honest mindset. We are all humans, shocker I know!! If you're working towards your goals and you feel like it's taking forever, how serious are you about those goals? Do you wake up and focus on them, or are they in the back of your mind. We all have the same amount of time in the day, we do with it what we feel is important. If you really want to watch that show or cook that meal you find the time to do those things. Are you making time for your goals each day?

4// We need to have a "why not me?" attitude. There are so many wonderful people in the world who are working towards their goals every day. They're getting up and trying to make it happen. Don't sell yourself short. If you have an idea for a project or a product and someone doesn't feel that it's worth it...take a step back, evaluate, and if you still love it, try again! I read that the guy who wanted to make LA LA LAND spent something like 10 years trying to make that movie a reality. He worked so hard at it that eventually someone listened. Same with Hugh Jackman and The Greatest Showman. He spent years trying to get that from a passion project to "the big screen."

5// On that same note, we don't reevaluate. Those in your life that know you very well and have  strong relationship with you should look over your project, in my opinion. Those people can give you a true honest answer, because they know you and love you. Maybe they have an idea that you haven't thought of yet that would take your project to the next level. Maybe they can give you insight that you wouldn't have seen because you're so involved already in the project or goal. 

6// Set steps along the way. If your goals seem too big, break them down into small section. Give yourself something that you can do now. If you want to move to another country you can start with looking into who has done it. What did they do? How does a visa work for that country? Start saving 2% of every paycheck and put it into another account so that you have the money to move all of your things. Do you know anyone who lives in that country? Smaller steps help you move towards the goal without feeling overwhelmed.

7// Lastly, give yourself grace. When we make a goal, sometimes that goal changes and evolves and that's ok. To use the above goal, if you start with wanting to move to another country and eventually you realize that you really love where you live, that's totally ok! You've learned from your goal. You've grown as a person, and then you set another goal. Always keep learning!! It's so good for you as a person and it keeps your mind sharp!
