January Favorites

This is my way to keep track of my year. This is about what I'm reading/watching/looking forwards to etc.

Movie// This month I fell in love with La La Land. If you haven't seen it, you should. If you have, isn't it awesome! It's one of those movies that grows on you. I left thinking it was a good movie, but the more time that has past since I've seen it, I've only grown to love it more. The music is so good, and it has a classic old movie type of feel that you don't find in many movies these days. Yes, I did buy the vinyl.

Book// I've been reading Lauren Graham's "Talking As Fast As I Can" and C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters." It's wonderful to get a glimpse into the mind of an actress that I have grown up loving. It's also wonderful to see that she wasn't always this character, that other aspects of her career were very challenging. For "The Screwtape Letters" it's amazing how, as humans, we so easily allow the obvious question to be the one we don't ask. We tend to assume the worst of people but expect others to only see the best in us, how does that make sense?

Musings// One thing I've been thinking about a lot this month is how short life is. How it shouldn't always rotate around you career and a paycheck. At the end of life, do a lot of the small things we get so worked up about really matter, no! Sometimes you have to take a step back and remember what's important, and what won't matter in a month. If you are given the wrong drink at the coffee shop, don't be angry because it won't matter in a months time. If your taxi is 5 minutes late, will it matter in a year. Is it worth getting so worked up that you yelled at someone who was just doing their job? No, so remember what's important and what isn't. Be kind to people.

Learning// Something I've been bringing back. My longing to be a better picture taker. The most influential thing I heard this month while searching around for tips and watching tutorials is that you have to take thousands of bad pictures before you start taking good ones. Isn't that the very easily forgettable truth! I become so focused on all the beautiful photography I see and wonder why I can't do that. Because I'm thousands of pictures behind them. Sometimes it just has to do with amount and opportunity to take more pictures. So, just try!
